
A common myth about the kangaroo’s name is that it came from the Aboriginal words for “I don’t understand you.”
When the English settlers landed in Australia, they noticed a strange animal that jumped extremely high and far. They asked the aboriginal the name of that animal. Due to language differences, body language and signs were use. The problem is, the aboriginal don’t understand what the English meant and keep on saying “Kan Ghu Ru” which means, “I don’t understand you”. Ha.. ha ..

The word kangaroo derives from the Guugu Yimidhirr word gangurru, referring to a grey kangaroo.
